WINNSBORO, Texas (October 30, 2017) – November is the time to recall all of life’s great blessings. It is about quality time with family, moments with children growing up too fast. Giving blood on behalf of a loved one undergoing medical care, in memory of a friend, or just to say thanks for good health, are life-saving reasons to donate blood. They are also reasons that our frequent blood donors say they keep coming back every 56 days.
Hawks Gun Club of East Texas is hosting a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at 212 East Coke Road in the Brookshire’s parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Greg Bova at (605) 548-7911.
CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System of Winnsboro is hosting a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, at 719 West Coke Road in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. As November continues to bring cooler weather, a little more football and family fun, Carter BloodCare says it is a time when families often come into area donor centers together to give blood. Perhaps they give just to do something good for someone else, as a family. Whatever the reason, on behalf of patients receiving blood transfusions, Carter BloodCare says ‘thanks.’
It takes about an hour to give one pint of whole blood. Blood transfusion can do more than save a life – it can provide hope and renewed energy for folks who battle a chronic blood disorder, or undergo cancer and surgical treatments. Each blood donation saves about three lives. A family of four could enhance or lengthen the lives of twelve patients, in just about an hour’s time.
Remember to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water one to two hours before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.
Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
