Donating blood helps Texas patients, including those with sickle cell disease

Blood is a necessity for all people at all times. During the ongoing nationwide blood supply shortage, the need for this vital resource is urgent, especially for those living with sickle cell disease (SCD), a genetic blood disorder. This month, Carter BloodCare urges all eligible donors to give blood to help local patients in need, including Texans living with SCD.

Donating in Rockwall is a family affair

Starting a little over a year ago, mobile drives out in the community were no longer the only way to donate blood in Rockwall. In June 2020, Carter BloodCare opened a donor center in this thriving city east of Dallas. The Rockwall center had two inaugural milestones: it was Carter BloodCare’s first to begin operations in the middle of a pandemic and the first to be designed specifically with social distancing in mind.

Carter BloodCare continues to serve hospital patients suffering with COVID-19 by supplying convalescent plasma (CCP)when ordered, thanks to generous volunteer donors. The FDA has very specific criteria for which donors may be able to donate CCP. If in doubt, schedule an appointment to donate blood.

Blood supply sees 30-year low

Blood is essential and can’t be manufactured. If it could be, that would be necessary right now. Only four percent of individuals who could donate blood are actually doing it. Additionally, in 30 years, the blood supply has never seen such a chronic low as it has since the beginning of the pandemic. New volunteer blood donors are urgently needed to revitalize a local blood supply and save more Texas patients’ lives.

Texas Rangers team up with Carter BloodCare to host 3-day drive to support urgent local need for blood during nationwide shortage

The Texas Rangers are teaming up with Carter BloodCare to go to bat for Texans in need of lifesaving blood transfusions.The Rangers will host a three-day blood drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Thursday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 4, at Arlington’s Globe Life Field on the All You Can Eat deck (in the right-field area of the upper concourse in sections 233 through 237). Blood donors can get their mitts on a stylish pair of Rangers- and Carter BloodCare-branded socks, as thanks for taking steps to save local lives.

Lowe's urges eligible blood donors to give during chronically-severe shortage

Summer is a traditionally slow season for blood donations and 2021 is serious because the blood supply is at a 30-year low. Following a pandemic and a week when collections halted due to freezing, icy conditions, the blood shortage leaves hospitals concerned about how to meet their patients’ blood transfusion needs. For this reason, Texans are urged to make an appointment or walk in to donate blood. It is a collective effort that will enable Carter BloodCare to meet the challenge of ending the 16-month-long blood shortage. As Americans, and better yet, as Texans, it can be done.
