In February, the season known for celebrating love, grateful patients say ‘I love you’ to their donors, without ever knowing who scheduled time in their day to help save their life.

18-year-old high school student wins free SUV in “Spirit of Giving”

An 18-year old student, Megan Hunt, of West Rusk High School, recently was awarded a free Chevy Trax, courtesy of The Thompson Group Classic Chevrolet Fleet and Commercial. By donating blood during a critical shortage at a recent Carter BloodCare blood drive at her school, she was automatically entered to win.

Grandmother Virginia Hunt of East Texas drove Hunt to Grapevine from Henderson County to pick up the vehicle.

Give blood Monday, January 18, for official 'day of service'

The local blood supply needs the community’s immediate attention. Carter BloodCare is asking eligible blood donors who are feeling well and healthy to please give blood in the next few days. On the official MLK Day of Service holiday, it seems fitting to use the time to give blood or make an appointment to do so.

January is National Blood Donor Month

January, a period of critical blood shortages, is National Blood Donor Month. People tend to stop donating blood during the holidays and when they get sick during cold and flu season. Blood drives also get snowed out during the winter months. Carter BloodCare's volunteer donors are asked to make an appointment to give blood.

Blood is not easy to come by, especially this time of year and during a pandemic. However, hospitals continue to order blood products for their transfusion-dependent patients at all hours, when moments could mean the difference between life and death. Carter BloodCare reminds the community that even in the midst of a pandemic, it is still safe to donate blood and patients are counting on those donations.

However, hospitals continue to order blood products for their transfusion-dependent patients at all hours, when moments could mean the difference between life and death. Carter BloodCare reminds the community that even in the midst of a pandemic, it is still safe to donate blood and patients are counting on those donations.  

VFW Post of Lampasas is hosting a drive from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, January 11, at 481 N. Highway 183 inside the VFW Hall.
