Inclement weather hampers blood collection operations

Only East Texas blood donation centers remain open

DALLAS/FORT WORTH/WACO/TYLER, Texas (Dec. 6, 2013) – Due to extremely icy conditions throughout much of north and central Texas, Carter BloodCare has closed all blood donation centers in those areas and cancelled all community blood drives. If you had an appointment to give blood today, you are urged to make an appointment to do so next week, or as soon as the weather conditions make safe travel possible.

In East Texas, Carter BloodCare’s donor centers remain open except in Paris, Texas where roads are impassable. If you are able to travel safely to a donor center near you, please consider doing so in East Texas. Patients in healthcare facilities need blood transfusions daily and the supply of blood on-hand seldom exceeds a two- or three-day need.

For more information on blood donation guidelines, visit carterbloodcare.org where you can also make an appointment for a future blood donation.
